Published on June 29, 2020, AFC Leopards Chairman Dan Shikanda expressed optimism that his team will be ready to challenge Kenyan Premier League (KPL) record champions Gor Mahia next season.

Speaking during the club's virtual Annual General Meeting, Shikanda acknowledged the challenges faced by the club, including the departure of a key sponsor and the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, he noted that the club has managed to ensure its smooth operation and meet its league obligations, citing the arrival of a new shirt sponsor, BetSafe, as a significant boost to the club's finances.

Shikanda emphasized the need for the club to up its game to compete favorably and expressed confidence in the team's ability to lift the KPL title sooner, drawing a parallel with Liverpool's 30-year wait for an EPL title.

He also hinted at plans to retain the club's best players and reinforce the squad ahead of next season, stating that the team is intact with no departures so far.

Shikanda's comments come as the club looks to the future with renewed confidence, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and financial constraints.
