On June 27, 2020, a Twitter post by Martha Karua, the former Gichugu MP, sent shockwaves through the social media platform after she referred to Dennis Itumbi, the former State House Digital Director, as her son.
Itumbi had been called a 'thug' by one of Karua's followers, prompting her to come to his defense. In her post, Karua expressed her admiration for the Kirinyaga County Assembly's efforts to hold leaders accountable, saying they had 'raised the bar of accountability high.'
However, her statement was met with a response from Njama Githui, who jokingly referred to Itumbi as a 'thief' and suggested that 'we need thieves to go home early.'
Itumbi then jumped into the conversation, affirming Karua's statement by saying 'He is my son period!' The nature of their relationship remains unclear.
