On June 25, 2020, Chief Magistrate Elizabeth Juma handed down a hefty fine of Sh727 million to Sirisia MP John Waluke and his co-accused Grace Wakhungu for defrauding the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) of Sh300 million.
As part of their sentence, the two will serve a jail term of seven years each if they fail to pay the fines.
Waluke's second wife, Roselyn, has taken to social media to appeal for financial assistance from well-wishers to help the family raise the amount.
"You are aware of our problem and I thank those who have stood with us during this challenging time and kindly continue praying for us," she said in an appeal quoted by People Daily.
However, her appeal has not been well-received by online users, who have vowed not to contribute anything, saying Waluke should pay for his own sins.
