Published on June 29, 2020, a day that would mark the beginning of the end for the Tanga Tanga fraternity's corrupt ways.

Shame and guilt were etched on the faces of its members as they were caught red-handed in their dealings. The agreement to operate discreetly had been breached, and the consequences were dire.

John Waluke, the Sirisia MP, was one of the first to face the music. He was accused of defrauding the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) of Sh313 million, a crime that could land him 67 years in jail or a fine of over a billion shillings.

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua was also in the hot seat, with his bank accounts frozen and Sh200 million seized by the Assets Recovery Agency. The MP had transacted Sh5.8 billion through his accounts, raising suspicions of money laundering.

Other Tanga Tanga allies, including former Cabinet Secretary for Sports and Culture Rashid Echesa, were also facing allegations of corruption. Echesa was linked to the arms scandal that resulted in the death of a Ruto aide, Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria was accused of siphoning Constituency Development Funds (CDF) money through his brother, Aloice Kuria, who was a police officer.

As the law catches up with the Tanga Tanga operatives, the truth about their corrupt ways is being brought to light. The end of the road is near, and they have nowhere to run or hide.
