On June 28, 2020, Kabarak University in Nakuru County facilitated Covid-19 testing for its staff at the Kabarak Guest House. The results, released on the same day, revealed that two of the samples tested positive for the virus.
According to Alex Kiprotich, Kabarak Director of Communications, the institution has been conducting regular testing of its staff. He noted that the health officials acted swiftly in isolating the cases and quarantining the contacts.
“On June 28, we got the results. Two of the samples tested positive. The county response team took the necessary steps to isolate the cases. The contacts have also been quarantined after tracing,” Mr Kiprotich said in a statement.
As a result of the positive cases, a Ministry of Education meeting was suspended, and over 150 officials of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) and other education stakeholders were affected. The officials were staying at the Kabarak Guest House and the university's hostels.
County Health Services Chief Officer, Samuel King'ori, met the officials who were staying at the guest house and asked them to disperse, but not before signing declaration forms committing to quarantine for 14 days.
