On the eve of the first anniversary of her husband's death, Wambui Kamiru, the widow of the late Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore, has spoken candidly about the profound impact his passing has had on her life.

Speaking to Sunday Nation on June 28, 2020, Wambui revealed that she lost her sense of smell following Collymore's demise on July 1st, 2019.

"I lost my sense of smell. It returned a few months ago and then disappeared again; so it goes and comes," she said.

Wambui attributed the loss of her sense of smell to the trauma of Collymore's death, explaining that grief can have a chemical effect on the body and senses.

Collymore, a 61-year-old Guyana-born British national, had battled Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a type of cancer that starts in the blood-forming cells of the bone marrow, for over two years before his death.

He was cremated in a private ceremony at the Hindu Shamshan Bhumi Cremation Centre in Kariokor, Nairobi, and was remembered by his wife for his wishes to be cremated without any possessions or jewelry.

"He used to say, 'I do not want to hang about. It's like I'm done; don't keep me around,'
