As of Sunday, June 28, 2020, Kenya's counties had made significant progress in Covid-19 preparedness, with 41 counties recording infections.
According to Health Ministry's Director of Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, the ministry has conducted trainings in counties on surveillance, detection, and case management.
Dr. Amoth made the remarks during the daily briefings at Afya House in Nairobi, where he highlighted the importance of laboratory testing in the fight against the pandemic.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi noted that the country has testing capacity in 28 laboratories across 12 counties.
Dr. Mwangangi emphasized that the reopening of the country would depend on county preparedness, but expressed optimism that in the next one week counties would be ready.
On Sunday, the number of Covid-19 cases in the country rose to 6,070 after 259 people tested positive, including an eight-month-old baby and a 92-year-old.
Dr. Mwangangi also announced that 35 patients were discharged from various health centres countrywide, bringing the tally of recoveries to 1,971.
