On June 28, 2020, Anti-Corruption Magistrate Elizabeth Juma delivered a ruling that has left the family of Sirisia MP John Walukhe in a precarious situation. The Magistrate found Walukhe and his co-accused, businesswoman Grace Wakhungu, guilty of fraud, having received Sh300 million from the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) in 2004.
According to court documents, the money was paid as payment for the supply of white maize. However, the Magistrate ruled that there was evidence to show that they forged an invoice to demand payment of the money charged as storage fees for the maize they said they imported from Ethiopia.
As a result, the couple has been ordered to be remanded at Kileleshwa Police Station until June 25 when they will be sentenced. The family is now seeking financial assistance to raise the fine, which has been set at 67 years.
MP Walukhe's wife, Roselyn, has taken to social media to plead with Kenyans to help her raise the fine. She has given out her MPESA line, 0728732542, in the hopes of getting assistance. In a heartfelt message, she said, 'You are aware of our problem and I thank those who have stood with us during this challenging time and kindly continue praying for us. We are requesting for your financial assistance. Kindly channel your financial support to my number 0728732542 as we wait for an M-Pesa Paybill number.'
