On a recent visit to Steak Out Restaurant in Lavington, Nairobi, I stumbled upon a culinary gem that left me feeling like I was dining in a tranquil English countryside. The restaurant's name, Steak Out, is a testament to its commitment to serving high-quality steaks, but what sets it apart is its ability to cater to diverse tastes, including vegetarian options.

As I perused the menu, I was struck by the variety of dishes on offer, each one carefully crafted to satisfy the palate. From the tender rump steak to the flavorful Chef's Curry, there's something for everyone at Steak Out. The restaurant's owner, Cheryl, has clearly poured her heart and soul into creating a dining experience that feels like home.

One of the standout features of Steak Out is its picturesque setting. Nestled in a well-matured one-acre garden, the restaurant offers a serene ambiance that's perfect for a relaxing meal. The lawn is dotted with a fascinating array of trees and shrubs, and the thick grass provides a comfortable surface for lounging. It's the perfect spot to meet today's social distancing requirements while still enjoying a delicious meal.

My wife, a vegetarian, was impressed by the number of options available, and she opted for the Chef's Curry, which was a hit. I, on the other hand, chose a typically English dish, shepherd's pie, which was a delightful cross between a traditional shepherd's pie and a Cornish pasty. The filling was minced meat, but the top was pastry, not mashed potatoes. As Shakespeare once said, 'What's in a name?' – a Shamba pie by any other name would taste as good.

Steak Out is a hidden gem in Nairobi's Lavington, and it's no wonder that it's a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The menu is diverse, the food is tasty and generous, and the clientele is well mixed. You can even bring along your dogs and children, making it a great spot for families. Before leaving, be sure to visit the well-stocked farm shop, which offers a wide range of adventurous jams, marmalades, and other treats.
