COVID-19 Cases in Kenya Reach 6,070 as 259 More Test Positive

Published on June 28, 2020, at 5:25 PM EAT

Kenya's COVID-19 cases have reached 6,070 after 259 more people tested positive, with 143 deaths and 1,971 recoveries.

According to the Ministry of Health, the new cases were confirmed after 2,718 samples were tested.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mercy Mwangangi warned that the number of cases is expected to rise due to the spread of the virus in the community.

"Counties must prepare for a large number of COVID-19 cases," Mwangangi said. "We urge counties to intensify their efforts to combat the virus by increasing testing and contact tracing."

The new cases were reported in various counties, including Nairobi (127), Mombasa (39), Kiambu (22), Machakos (16), Busia (11), and others.

As of June 28, 2020, a total of 10,114,973 people have been infected with COVID-19 globally since the outbreak began in Wuhan, China in December 2019.

Of these, 5,484,815 have recovered, while 501,920 have died.
