Kenya's government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the Sh274 million Kirubia Stadium in Chuka town, Tharaka Nithi County, by the end of July.

According to Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage Ambassador Amina Mohammed, the stadium will be handed over to the county government by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the end of July.

Speaking during an inspection visit to the stadium on June 11, 2020, Ambassador Amina expressed her satisfaction with the project's progress, stating, 'I am pleased to see how the county and national government are working together to see to the completion of this major project and I can assure you that by the end of July the President will be here to hand it over to the county government.'

The stadium, which has been under construction for over a year and a half, is expected to boost the economy of Chuka town, Tharaka Nithi County's commercial hub.

Once completed, Kirubia stadium will feature an underground tank for storing water, ensuring the grass remains green throughout the year, a challenge faced by many modern stadiums in the country.

The stadium is being constructed by Toddy Civil Engineering Company and is expected to be completed by the end of July.

Other stadiums, including Kinoru in Meru County, Nyayo in Nairobi, Kisumu stadium, Kipchoge Keino in Uasin Gishu County, and Wote in Makueni, are also expected to be completed between July and December or early next year.
