COVID-19 Cases in Kenya Surpass 6,000 Mark

On June 28, 2020, Kenya's COVID-19 cases surpassed the 6,000-mark after 259 people tested positive from a sample of 2,718 in the last 24 hours.

According to the Ministry of Health's daily briefing on coronavirus, Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi reviewed the death toll, which had risen to 143 after two patients succumbed to the virus.

Additionally, 35 people were discharged from various hospitals after recovering from the disease, bringing the total recoveries to 1,971.

Dr. Mwangangi noted that of the 259 cases, 256 were Kenyans while three were foreigners.

Among the new COVID-19 patients was an eight-month-old baby.

The number of counties affected by the virus also rose to 41 after Lamu reported its first COVID-19 case.

The 259 positive cases were distributed across various counties, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kiambu, Machakos, Busia, Makueni, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Kilifi, Kajiado, Kisumu, Lamu, Garissa, Marsabit, and Kwale.
