Kenya has recorded a significant rise in COVID-19 cases, with 259 new infections reported within 24 hours leading up to Sunday, June 28, 2020.
According to the Health Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi, the new cases were diagnosed from 2,718 samples analyzed during the reporting period.
Of the new cases, three are foreigners, while 159 are male and 100 are female.
Mwangangi emphasized the importance of complying with COVID-19 prevention guidelines, warning that failure to do so poses a significant threat to the country's healthcare system.
"It becomes more important that we step up compliance and containment measures because failure to do this is a huge threat to our healthcare system and to our country," she said.
The new cases were reported in various counties, with Nairobi leading the pack with 127 cases, followed by Mombasa with 39 cases.
Other counties that reported cases include Kiambu, Machakos, Busia, Makueni, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Kilifi, Kajiado, Kisumu, Garissa, Lamu, Marsabit, and Kwale.
