Published on June 28, 2020, Kenya's COVID-19 cases have surged to 6,070 with 259 new infections reported in the last 24 hours.
Among the new cases is an 8-month-old baby, bringing the total number of infections to 6,070. The baby is one of 256 Kenyans and three foreign nationals who tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi announced the new cases during the daily COVID-19 briefings at Afya House on Sunday. She stated that 2,718 samples were tested in the country within the last 24 hours.
The 259 patients include 159 males and 100 females, with the oldest being 92 years old. The case distribution according to counties is as follows: Nairobi (127), Mombasa (39), Kiambu (22), Machakos (16), Busia (11), Makueni (9), Nakuru (9), Uasin Gishu (9), Kilifi (5), Kajiado (3), Kisumu (2), Lamu (2), Garissa (2), Marsabit (2), and Kwale (1).
Dr. Mwangangi also announced that 35 patients were discharged from various health centers countrywide, bringing the tally of recoveries to 1,971. Unfortunately, two more patients succumbed to the disease, taking the number of fatalities to 143.
