Published on June 28, 2020, a 34-year-old man, Simon Murimi Wanjohi, was arrested in Kirinyaga County for allegedly killing his girlfriend and burying her in a shallow grave.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday at Baricho in Ndia Constituency at around 3am, according to Kirinyaga Central Deputy County Commissioner Daniel Ndege.
Mr. Ndege stated that the suspect was found digging a hole by his father on Tuesday night, claiming it was a garbage pit. However, when the father visited the son's home on Wednesday, he found the pit buried and alerted the area chief and neighbours.
Upon uncovering the pit, they discovered the feet of a woman and found that the suspect had buried a body. The deceased's mother, Beatrice Kabari, reported her daughter missing on Monday.
The body was exhumed on Friday and taken to Kerugoya Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
