On Sunday, Malawi's newly elected leaders, Lazarus Chakwera and Saulos Chilima, were inducted into office during an inauguration ceremony in Lilongwe, the country's capital.
Chakwera, who ran on a Malawi Congress Party ticket, defeated incumbent President Peter Mutharika with 58.57% of the vote in the re-run presidential election held on Tuesday.
Chilima, a sitting Vice President and leader of the United Transformation Movement, had previously supported Chakwera's election bid, ditching incumbent President Mutharika in the process.
Chakwera's victory comes after Malawi's constitutional court annulled Mutharika's win in February, citing vote tampering.
