Published on June 28, 2020, Thika Town Constituency has witnessed a significant boost in small-scale businesses, with 45 groups receiving Ksh 4.8 million from the Uwezo fund.
The beneficiaries, comprising bodaboda operators, Jua Kali artisans, and poultry farmers, underwent rigorous training on prudent financial management before receiving the cash.
While distributing the cheques, area MP Eng. Patrick Wainaina emphasized the importance of small business enterprises in the economy, describing them as the 'growers of the economy' that create value at the lowest cadre of the community.
Wainaina urged the youth, women, and persons living with disability to take advantage of interest-free loans to better their livelihoods and encouraged upcoming entrepreneurs to explore financing options from other financial institutions to supplement their seed capital.
He also commended the government for banning the importation of goods that can be manufactured locally, which he believes will help Kenyans buy and build Kenyan products.
Through capacity building, Wainaina noted that Kenyans have displayed great potential in technological discovery of societal solutions needed in the country.
