On June 28, 2020, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru narrowly escaped impeachment after the Senate dismissed the motion citing lack of sufficient evidence.
Hours after the Senate's decision, Waiguru took to social media to thank her husband, Kamotho Waiganjo, for his unwavering support throughout the process.
'I would like to thank my husband, who has been amazingly supportive throughout this process. A friend of mine recently said that there are husbands from heaven, and then there are husbands who come walking. You are definitely one from heaven,' Waiguru said in a statement.
Waiganjo, who served as the lead counsel in the case, played a crucial role in ensuring that the Senate dismissed the impeachment motion.
Waiguru also used the opportunity to caution Kenyans against spreading false information, urging them to prioritize truth over sensational reporting.
'To Kenyans at large, I know that we live in a day and age where sensational reporting, especially through social media, takes the day, but I urge us not to lose sight of truth. Just because a lie repeated severally sounds like the truth, it does not in any way change the truth,' she said.
