Published on June 28, 2020, a court has dealt a significant blow to Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua by blocking Sh. 200 million in his account.

The court's decision follows a successful petition by the State to have the funds forfeited to the national government.

According to a report by the Assets Recovery Agency (ARA), the funds in question emanated from various government agencies, including the Ministry of Lands, the Ministry of Health, and the National Irrigation Board.

Documents filed in court revealed that within seven years, MP Rigathi Gachagua received Sh. 5.8 billion, which included funds from companies or business entities providing services to ministries, state agencies, and county governments.

The court has ordered that the MP's accounts at Rafiki Micro Finance bank remain frozen for a period of 90 days, pending further investigation.

This is not the first time MP Rigathi Gachagua's bank accounts have been frozen. In May this year, a court barred him and five companies associated with him and his close allies from transacting with the accounts at Rafiki Microfinance Bank for seven days.
