June 27, 2020, marked a historic day for Bayern Munich as they clinched the Bundesliga title in an empty Volkswagen Arena, Wolfsburg, Germany. The Bavarians, who had already been crowned champions the previous week, sealed their victory with a 4-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg on the final matchday.

Bayern's Kingsley Coman opened the scoring in the fourth minute, netting a goal from Thomas Mueller's 21st assist, a league record. Mickael Cuisance then rifled in a sensational goal from 25 meters in the 37th minute, earning a penalty that resulted in Joshua Guilavogui's red card. Robert Lewandowski converted the penalty for his 34th goal of the season, securing his fifth Bundesliga top scorer award and third in a row.

Bayern's Mueller made it 4-0 in the 79th minute, taking their season goal tally to 100, just one less than the league record set in the 1971-72 season. The victory denied Wolfsburg a direct Europa League group stage spot, leaving them in seventh place.

The trophy ceremony, held in an empty stadium, was a poignant reflection of the season that was interrupted for over two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bayern's players celebrated lifting the trophy with a handful of club bosses in the stands, with no families, fans, or friends present to share in their joy.

Bayern can win more silverware next week with the German Cup final against Bayer Leverkusen and are still in the Champions League. German football League CEO Christian Seifert addressed the unusual circumstances, saying, 'It is a special but strange moment. We have never experienced a season ending in such a way, no fans, no whistles, no cheers.'
