President Kenyatta emphasized the importance of the proposed U.S.-Kenya Free Trade Agreement, set to begin negotiations on July 7, 2020. He highlighted the role of Africa's private sector in driving economic growth, citing Kenya's efforts to adopt business-friendly regulations.
President Akufo-Addo discussed Ghana's response to the pandemic, including a $250 million coronavirus alleviation program to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and stimulate economic revitalization.
A panel discussion on sustaining regional and bilateral trade post-COVID explored the impact of the pandemic on business and trade in Africa. Panelists discussed the potential of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) and U.S.-Africa trade arrangements, as well as the importance of partnerships between governments, the private sector, and multilateral stakeholders.
