Martha Karua Defends Kirinyaga County Assembly Amid Anne Waiguru's Senate Snub ¶
On June 27, 2020, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua praised the Kirinyaga County Assembly despite their failure to censure Governor Anne Waiguru.
According to Karua, the assembly has presented a challenge of accountability to leaders and members who must follow the law in their actions.
On June 26, 2020, Waiguru faced a humiliating rebuke in the Senate after a motion to censure her was tabled by 23 out of 33 members. The motion was tabled over allegations of misusing office funds, corruption in tendering, and other malpractices.
Waiguru, however, dismissed the allegations as a political ploy to humiliate her. She claimed that the motion lacked sufficient backing and was a mere political maneuver.
Despite her claims, the committee led by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala asked Waiguru to rectify her actions and maintain a good relationship with the county's assembly members.
Martha Karua's statement comes as a surprise to many, as she has been a vocal critic of Governor Waiguru's administration in the past.
