President Donald Trump's efforts to downplay the COVID-19 pandemic have been met with a surge in protective measures around him, as he seeks to shift the focus to his rival Joe Biden's health.

According to sources, when Trump travels to areas with high COVID-19 cases, every venue he enters is thoroughly inspected for potential contagion by advance security and medical teams. Bathrooms designated for his use are scrubbed and sanitized before his arrival, and staff maintain a close accounting of who will come into contact with him to ensure they receive tests.

While the White House has phased out steps such as temperature checks and required mask-wearing in the West Wing, those around Trump still undergo regular testing. This week, the virus struck members of his staff, including campaign aides and US Secret Service personnel who had been working on his campaign rally in Tulsa.
