Argentina's 1986 World Cup-winning coach, Carlos Bilardo, has tested positive for coronavirus, local media reports revealed on June 27, 2020.

At 82 years old, Bilardo suffers from a brain disorder and resides in a nursing home where 10 other occupants have also tested positive for COVID-19.

His former club, Estudiantes La Plata, expressed support for Bilardo, tweeting, 'We are in this match with you Carlos!' on Friday.

Bilardo's health issues date back to July 2019, when he was admitted to intensive care with Hakim-Adams syndrome.

He managed Argentina's national side from 1982 to 1990, leading the team to World Cup victories in Mexico and Italy, and is also a doctor.

Argentina has recorded over 55,000 cases and almost 1,200 deaths due to coronavirus, prompting President Alberto Fernandez to announce a tightening of lockdown measures in Buenos Aires and its surrounding area.
