On June 27, 2020, an interview with Churchill comedian MCA Tricky's mentor revealed a surprising truth about the comedian's past.
Contrary to popular assumption, MCA Tricky was not a street boy, but rather a bright student who was forced to navigate the streets after losing a scholarship.
According to MCA Tricky, he was given a scholarship after primary school, but it was terminated, leaving him with no choice but to move to Nairobi.
'I was a bright student and after primary school I was given a scholarship but sadly along the way the owner of the school terminated the scholarship,' MCA Tricky said in an interview.
He continued, 'I then decided to go to Nairobi and I would hang around Uhuru Park. I used to go there during the day and a hawker would give me something to eat and in return I would help him out.'
During his time at Uhuru Park, MCA Tricky met people who shared his passion for performing, and they would put on skits in primary schools.
'Our 'director' had given us a place to sleep,' MCA Tricky recalled.
One day, he met someone he used to study with in primary school, who lent him Ksh 200, which helped him return home to a shocked family.
Tricky joined his dad and together they searched for a new school, where he eventually graduated as an aeronautical engineer.
'I am very happy that I am living my dream,' MCA Tricky said on graduating.
