On June 27, 2020, Kenya recorded 278 new coronavirus cases from 4,074 samples in the last 24 hours, taking the national tally to 5,811, according to Health Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi.
During the daily Covid-19 briefing at Afya House, Nairobi, Dr Mwangangi revealed that 31 people were discharged from various hospitals after full recovery, increasing the number of recoveries to 1,936.
Of the new cases, 181 patients were male while 97 were female, aged between one year old and 84.
The distribution of new cases per county was as follows: Nairobi (171), Mombasa (37), Nakuru (17), Kiambu (12), Busia (10), Uasin Gishu (9), Kajiado (4), and Migori (3).
Other counties that reported new cases included Kericho, Machakos, Nandi, and Trans Nzoia, each with two cases, while Siaya, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kisumu, Makueni, Meru, and Vihiga each had one case.
Dr Mwangangi emphasized the need for a community-based approach to combat the virus, urging county governments and the public to take an active role in preventing the spread of Covid-19.
She also highlighted the importance of reducing cross-infections in healthcare facilities, appealing to all hospitals to be extremely careful and put in place measures to minimize the risk of cross-infection.
