Kenya's COVID-19 cases have risen to 5811 after 278 more individuals tested positive in the last 24 hours, with the majority of cases reported in Nairobi county.
According to Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi, who spoke during the daily COVID-19 press conference on June 27, 2020, Nairobi county leads with 171 cases.
Out of the 278 cases, 181 were male with 97 being female. The youngest case is a one-year-old infant, while the oldest is an 84-year-old.
Of the new cases, all except two are Kenyans.
31 patients have been discharged, bringing the total number of patients who have recovered to 1,936.
Unfortunately, four more patients have died, bringing the total number of those who have succumbed to 141.
The cases are distributed across various counties, with Nairobi having the highest number of cases, followed by Mombasa, Nakuru, and Kiambu.
Dr. Mwangangi also encouraged mothers to continue breastfeeding their infants, noting that breastfeeding had not been identified as a source of COVID-19 infection from mother to child.
"However, we still need to sanitize surfaces at home and observe the other guidelines," she stated.
