Kenya's Covid-19 Cases Rise to 5,811 with 278 New Cases

Published on June 27, 2020, Kenya's Covid-19 cases have risen to 5,811 with 278 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.

According to Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, 276 of the new cases are Kenyans, while two are foreigners.

The youngest person to test positive is one year old, while the oldest is 84 years old.

Of the new cases, 181 are male, and 97 are female.

Nairobi leads the tally with 171 cases, followed by Mombasa with 37, Nakuru with 17, Kiambu with 12, Busia with 10, Uasin Gishu with nine, Kajiado with four, Migori with three, Kericho with two, Machakos with two, Nandi with two, Trans-Nzoia with two, Siaya with one, Taita-Taveta with one, Kwale with one, Kisumu with one, Makueni with one, Meru with one, and Vihiga with one.

Within Nairobi, the cases are distributed across various sub-counties, including Westlands with 34 cases, Lang'ata with 28, Dagoretti North with 17, Makadara with 16, Kibra with 11, Embakasi East with 10, Kasarani with nine, Embakasi South with eight, and several other sub-counties.

Dr. Mwangangi also noted that Mvita leads in Mombasa with 14 cases, followed by Nyali with six and Changamwe with two.

“Today we are happy to report that we have discharged 31 patients in various hospitals bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,936. We continue to salute our healthcare workers for this commendable work,” she said.

Dr. Mwangangi also reported that four patients had died of the disease, bringing the total number of fatalities to 141.

She appealed to all public and private hospitals to be extremely careful to make sure they put in place measures to reduce the risk of cross-infection.
