Published on June 27, 2020, a report highlighted the challenges faced by scientists advising the British government on its COVID-19 response. The group, comprising experts from Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, has been at the forefront of the UK's response to the pandemic.

However, their work has come under intense scrutiny, with some scientists expressing concerns that Prime Minister Boris Johnson is setting them up to take the blame for the high death toll. The death toll has exceeded 43,000, and the scientists' advice is now being second-guessed on social media.

According to Julia Gog, a professor of mathematical biology at the University of Cambridge, the scientists are under immense pressure to deliver recommendations on tight deadlines, all while dealing with the stresses of the lockdown in their personal lives. 'It has been so immersive. You can't get away. Even when you are trying to not be working, everything on the news is this, everything anyone wants to talk about, and your life is also controlled by this,' Dr. Gog said.

The scientists' academic quarrels are also being hinted at in the minutes of their meetings, and their private lives are not off-limits. Dr. Ferguson's indiscretions, for instance, have shown that even the scientists' personal lives are under scrutiny.
