On June 27, 2020, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru celebrated a historic victory after the Senate cleared her name in a long-drawn impeachment process.
Waiguru termed the Senate's verdict a 'remarkable and historic victory' for her and the people of Kirinyaga.
She accused the County Assembly of orchestrating a choreographed plan to tarnish her name, but chose to forgive those behind it.
Waiguru assured Kirinyaga residents that she would address areas of improvement in administration and ensure better checks and balances to improve service delivery.
She called upon the County Assembly to own up to their failures and work together to move Kirinyaga forward.
Waiguru also emphasized the need for prioritizing funds for Covid-19 management and healthcare projects over building MCAs offices.
Supporters of Waiguru took to the streets in Wanguru town and Kagio to celebrate the Senate's decision, lauding them for saving their Governor.
Waiguru maintained that her woes were solely due to her stand for BBI and support for the Handshake between President Uhuru and Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
She assured the people of Kirinyaga that the impeachment process would not affect her commitment to serve them, and that she was more resolved than ever to ensure they received the service they deserved.
