On June 26, 2020, a chaotic confrontation erupted in Lessos, Kenya, following a shooting incident that left three residents dead.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua, who led a peace meeting between security agencies and the community, ordered the transfer of all police officers attached to Lessos Police Station.
According to eyewitnesses, the police had been demanding bribes and harassing locals while implementing COVID-19 regulations.
The Inspector-General of Police Mutyambai had ordered a shakeup to avert more bloodshed, as seen in the image below.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations into the alleged fatal shooting, with IPOA Chairperson Anne Makori stating that the Authority will make appropriate recommendations if culpability is established.
