On June 23, 2020, Raila Odinga underwent a minor back surgery at the Saudi German Hospital Dubai (SGH Dubai) in the UAE. According to ODM Deputy Leader Hassan Joho, the former Prime Minister is recovering well.

Speaking to Nyakundi Report, Joho expressed his happiness and encouragement at Odinga's progress, saying, 'I had the opportunity to speak to my party leader and my father the Baba of the nation. I feel happy and encouraged that he is progressing well.'

Joho, who has been a loyal supporter of Raila, reminded Kenyans that their leaders are human beings who can fall sick sometimes. He emphasized that Odinga's surgery was a routine procedure and that he is expected to make a full recovery.

The Mombasa Governor expressed his hopes that Odinga will return to the country as soon as possible, stating, 'I have no doubt that within the shortest time possible, Baba will be back in Kenya.'

He added that the ODM party will continue to stand behind Odinga and support his agenda, saying, 'We stand solidly behind him and his agenda is our agenda. What he identifies with is what we are moving with.'
