On June 25, 2020, a tragic incident occurred in Migori, where a 17-year-old girl was brutally beaten to death by her father, Abidha Rabet, the headteacher of St Juliane Ugari Mixed Secondary School.
According to officials, Rabet found his daughter inside the house of her boyfriend and descended on her with a cooking stick, leaving her unconscious.
The girl was taken to Neo Care Centre for first aid but her condition deteriorated, and she was later moved to Migori County Referral Hospital, where she eventually died.
Neighbours who witnessed the incident reported that Rabet also attacked the boy who was with his daughter, but he managed to escape.
Uriri sub-county police boss Peter Njoroge revealed that some relatives of the victim attempted to secretly bury her body, but they were intercepted by police in Homa Bay while on their way to Bondo for burial.
The body of the victim was taken to St Joseph’s Onbo Mission Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Rabet will be arraigned in court on Monday, June 29, 2020.
