On June 26, 2020, a Special Senate Committee investigating the impeachment of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru delivered a verdict that cleared her of all charges.
The committee, led by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, found that the Kirinyaga County Assembly failed to provide sufficient evidence to support the allegations made against Governor Waiguru.
According to the committee's report, the two charges against the governor - gross misconduct, abuse of office, and violation of procurement regulations - were not substantiated.
Waiguru was impeached by 23 out of 33 Ward Representatives, with four MCAs abstaining and six absent.
The Senate committee tabled its report on June 26, 2020, following a two-day hearing that concluded on June 24, 2020.
