Kenya has reached a grim milestone in its fight against COVID-19, with the total number of cases surpassing 5,000. According to the Health Ministry, 254 new cases were reported on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases to 5,206.
The new cases are distributed across various counties, with Nairobi leading the pack with 127 infections, followed by Mombasa with 36 cases. The youngest patient is just four years old, while the oldest is 92.
Of the 254 new cases, 186 are males and 68 are females. The Health Ministry has also reported that 41 patients have been released from treatment centers, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,823.
Unfortunately, the death toll from the virus has also increased to 130, after two more patients lost their lives in the past 24 hours. So far, Kenya has tested 151,396 samples for COVID-19.
