On June 26, 2020, a dramatic incident unfolded in Glasgow, Scotland, leaving one person dead and six others injured.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Johnson of Police Scotland confirmed that the individual shot by armed police had died.

Johnson also stated that six other people were in hospital for treatment of their injuries, including a police officer who was in a critical but stable condition.

The incident occurred at the Park Inn hotel on West George Street, with several roads closed and the surrounding area cordoned off.

Positive Action in Housing, a homelessness and human rights charity, revealed that the hotel was being used to house asylum seekers during the coronavirus outbreak.

Johnson declined to disclose the suspect's identity or the circumstances surrounding the police officer's injury, citing reports that the officer was stabbed.

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon described the incident as 'truly dreadful,' while UK interior minister Priti Patel called it 'deeply alarming.'

Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed his 'deep sadness' over the incident, tweeting, 'My thoughts are with all the victims and their families.'

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with armed police in plain clothes and television footage showing people being frogmarched out of the hotel.

One witness, Craig Milroy, described seeing a man lying on the ground without shoes, with someone holding his side.

Another witness, Louisa, told Sky News that she saw 'people being treated with blood on the ground' and 'police cars, ambulances all over the street.'
