On May 28, 2020, protests against police brutality erupted in Minnesota, with residents demonstrating peacefully against racial injustice.

Sharon Morara, a Kenyan student at Hopkins High School in Minnesota, was allegedly shot in the face during the protests.

According to her fund page, Morara was standing by a tree when she was hit by a sharp object, causing her to lose consciousness.

"All I remember was that I was standing by this tree, was about to turn around, and I got hit," Morara stated.

She was rushed to Park Nicollet Hospital but was unable to receive proper treatment due to the hospital being on lockdown.

After waiting until 4 am, Morara was transferred to a children's hospital, where she underwent surgery to repair her lip and smile.

She is now appealing to well-wishers to help raise Ksh 6 million to cover her hospital bill and undergo reconstructive surgery.

"I have been struggling with my mental health after this all happened and didn’t know how to feel having people I didn’t know contact me and having all this attention," Morara said.

She is seeking help to find a surgeon to perform the necessary reconstructive surgery.
