Tennis Finals Postponed Due to COVID-19 Pandemic ¶
On June 26, 2020, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced that the men's Davis Cup and women's Fed Cup tennis finals have been rescheduled for 2021 due to complications posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Davis Cup finals, initially set to take place in Madrid from November 23-29, 2020, will now begin the week starting November 22, 2021. The 18 teams that qualified for the 2020 edition will participate in the rearranged finals.
ITF president David Haggerty stated, 'This is a tough decision to have to make, but delivering an international team event on this scale while guaranteeing the health and safety of all involved ultimately poses too great a risk.'
The Fed Cup finals, initially set to take place in Budapest from April 14-19, 2020, have been rescheduled for April 13-18, 2021. The revised 12-team Fed Cup finals will feature four groups of three teams, with the winners progressing to the semi-finals and final.
France won the 2019 Fed Cup after beating Australia 3-2 in the final in Perth.
Eight Fed Cup play-off ties, originally scheduled for March 2020, will now take place in February 2021.
