On June 26, 2020, Kenya's COVID-19 cases reached 5,533 after 149 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
According to Health CAS Dr Rashid Aman, 3,090 samples had been tested in the same period, with 148 of the new cases being Kenyans and one a foreign national.
Of the new cases, 94 were male and 55 were female, with the cases distributed across various counties, including Nairobi (73), Mombasa (20), and Kajiado (15).
Unfortunately, five more patients have died, bringing the total number of fatalities to 137.
Dr Aman also used the opportunity to raise awareness about the risks of drug abuse, stating that drug abusers are at risk of contracting COVID-19 due to reduced immunity, poor hygiene, and the culture of sharing paraphernalia.
