On June 26, 2020, a Senate committee delivered a verdict in the impeachment trial of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, clearing her of charges that could have led to her removal from office.

The committee, chaired by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, concluded that the Kirinyaga County Assembly failed to provide sufficient evidence to support the allegations against Waiguru.

The charges against Waiguru were brought forward by the MCAs on June 9, citing gross violation of the Constitution and abuse of office.
