Nakuru Gangs Utilize Drones to Disrupt Security Agencies

On June 25, 2020, Nakuru County Commissioner Erustus Mbui revealed that criminal gangs in the area are employing drones to monitor security agencies' movements and activities.

The gangs, including the notorious 'Confirm' group, have been using the drones to carry out criminal activities, with security agencies taking the challenge seriously.

According to Commissioner Mbui, the drones are easily available and are often used by jobless youths who are frustrated by Covid-19 restrictions. These individuals often pretend to be gathering news using the drones.

Some security agencies have accused politicians of sponsoring the gangs, with Commissioner Mbui stating that 'evil politicians have taken advantage of the situation' and are sponsoring some of the activities.

He added that detectives are aware of the gangs' new tricks and warned that they will be arrested and punished.

Residents of Nakuru have accused cartels in law enforcement of doing little to arrest the criminals, with some even accusing the police of releasing the criminals without taking them to court.

However, Commissioner Mbui absolved the police from blame, stating that some politicians are using their money to defeat justice and that he is ready to name the politicians hiding the criminals.

He emphasized the need for cooperation between security teams and the community to prevent and counter violent extremism in Nakuru County.

Midrift Human Rights Network, which organized the County Engagement Forum, is working closely with security teams to prevent and counter violent extremism in the area.
