Published on June 26, 2020, a brutal attack shook Ugoti village in Igembe South, Meru County, leaving a trail of death and fear.
A gang of seven men hacked to death a 38-year-old man and slashed four others in the Kianda land adjudication area.
Area police boss Henry Akong'o revealed that the attackers were known criminals who had recently been released from jail and were drunk at the time of the attack.
"They are known people who only left jail recently. They were drunk when they attacked the residents," he said.
The police later rescued the abducted girl, who was taken to Nyambene Sub-County Hospital for treatment and was discharged the following day.
The incident has sparked fear in the area, with police fearing retaliatory attacks.
Local MP John Paul Mwirigi has called for the transfer of police officers at Nthanjene Police Post, accusing them of abetting criminal activities, including the sale and consumption of illicit brews.
