On June 26, 2020, Nickelodeon announced that it would be developing the popular YouTube kids show Baby Shark into an animated series.
The animated series will be a collaboration between Nickelodeon and SmartStudy, the company behind Pinkfong, the Korean entertainment brand that created the Baby Shark song.
The Baby Shark song, which was launched on YouTube in November 2015, has become the second most-watched video in the platform's history with over 5.7 billion views.
The animated series will follow Baby Shark and his best friend William on comedic adventures in the community of Carnivore Cove, where they will meet new friends and sing original songs.
According to Ramsey Naito, executive vice president of Nickelodeon animation production and development, the team is excited to create new storylines for the beloved property.
"Having the opportunity to dive deeper into this incredible world and create all-new storylines has been extremely exciting," said Ramsey. "Our head of preschool Eryk Casemiro and his team cannot wait to help grow the Baby Shark universe and fanbase with an amazing new series that captures the heart and spirit of this beloved property," he added.
The animated series is set to kick off with a holiday special in December, followed by a spring 2021 release.
