On June 9, the Kirinyaga County Assembly had voted to impeach Governor Anne Waiguru, citing gross violation of the Constitution and abuse of office.

However, a Senate committee chaired by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has now found her not guilty, concluding that the charges against her were not substantiated.

The committee's verdict brings an end to a bid to remove Waiguru from office, following a two-day trial on Tuesday and Wednesday.
