President Uhuru Kenyatta's crackdown on Deputy President William Ruto's allies in the Jubilee Party has intensified, with six more legislators set to be axed from parliamentary committees.
According to sources, the six were given letters of intent to remove them from their leadership positions in various National Assembly committees on June 24th, signed by Deputy Majority Whip Maoka Maore.
The affected legislators include departmental committee chairmen Julius Melly (Education), Ali Wario (Labour and Social Welfare), William Kisang (Communication, Information and Innovation), Joseph Limo (Finance and National Planning), and Joash Nyamoko (Parliamentary Broadcasting and Library).
This move takes the total number of ousted rebels to 22, with the purge specifically targeting vocal MPs who have sided with the DP.
Earlier this week, Majority Leader Aden Duale, a staunch Ruto ally, was replaced by Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya.
Other MPs who have been purged include Gladys Shollei (Uasin Gishu), Kimani Ichung'wa (Kikuyu), William Cheptumo (Baringo North), Alice Wahome (Justice and Legal Affairs vice-chairperson), Joyce Chepkorir (Labour and Social Welfare vice-chair), Khatib Mwashetani (Lands vice-chair), Catherine Waruguru (Services and Facilities vice-chair), Moses Kuria (Transport vice-chair), James Lomenen (National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities vice-chair), Liza Chepkorir Chelule (Broadcast and Library vice-chair), and Cornelly Serem (Trade vice-chair).
The purge is seen as a move to target those perceived to be disloyal to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
