On June 26, 2020, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru's fate will be decided by the Senate after an 11-member committee tables its report on her impeachment case to Speaker Ken Lusaka.
According to Kenyan Digest, the Senate will convene in a special sitting to deliberate on the report, which is expected to outline the findings of the committee's investigation into the allegations against Waiguru.
Waiguru, who has been accused of graft, abuse of office, and violation of procurement regulations, has maintained her innocence throughout the impeachment process.
Speaking to the Senate, Waiguru stated, "If found guilty the house will vote on her impeachment. If not, I shall direct on how we shall proceed," Lusaka announced.
The Kirinyaga County Assembly had accused Waiguru of being rude and having dictatorial tendencies, claiming that she has never had time for the ward representatives.
After receiving the report, Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka will decide whether Waiguru will be set free through a plenary vote, depending on the outcome of the report.
