On June 26, 2020, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala was expelled from the Amani National Congress (ANC) following a special National Delegates meeting.
The party, led by former Presidential candidate Musalia Mudavadi, accused Malala of being disloyal to the party and its leader.
According to the party, it had followed due process, including inviting Malala to appear before the disciplinary committee, which he declined.
Malala's expulsion was recommended by the disciplinary committee, which found that his actions at a political rally on October 27, 2019, had prejudiced the integrity and reputation of the ANC party.
As per the party's Constitution, the committee resolved to expel Malala from membership with effect from December 5, 2019.
The National Delegates meeting unanimously adopted the disciplinary committee's resolutions.
When contacted, Malala laughed off the matter, stating that he would issue a comprehensive statement later.
