On Friday, June 26, 2020, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho provided an update on the health condition of ODM leader Raila Odinga, who had undergone a minor surgery in a German hospital.
According to Joho, Odinga was in high spirits and had already undergone the procedure.
"This morning I have had the opportunity to speak to my party leader. I feel happy and encouraged that he is progressing really well," Joho stated.
He urged Kenyans to continue praying for Odinga, who he referred to as "Baba," and expressed confidence that he would be back in Kenya soon.
Just like everyone, Joho reminded Kenyans that leaders face challenges beyond their control, including illness and personal issues.
"Sometimes leaders get sick and they are treated. Sometimes they have to deal with issues that every human being goes through and the best we can do is pray for them," he stated.
Earlier in the week, there were speculations that Odinga had traveled to China for treatment of a type of cancer associated with old age.
However, on Wednesday, June 24, Odinga's family spokesperson, Oburu Odinga, clarified that Raila was not in any serious health condition, stating that he was out of the country for a minor surgical operation on his back.
