On a courtesy call to the Nairobi County Assembly, Director General of Nairobi Metropolitan Services Major General Mohammed Badi outlined his priorities for the city's development, emphasizing the need to upgrade informal areas that have long been neglected in terms of infrastructure.
Speaking to the Assembly, Badi assured them of his commitment to equitable service delivery, citing the upgrading of informal areas as a key priority. He also pledged to improve city roads, stating that NMS would deliver all road projects as long as they were within budget.
Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi requested Badi to support the Assembly in enhancing security, citing the invasion of goons at the County premises. Badi responded by promising to tighten security around the Assembly.
During his tenure, Badi has initiated several projects aimed at improving the lives of Nairobi residents, including slum upgrading projects, drilling of boreholes, and rehabilitation of roads in informal settlements such as Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Kibera, and Mathare.
Residents in these informal settlements will receive water five times a week after at least 20 boreholes are drilled throughout the county and water is redistributed. The daily water demand in Nairobi is more than 810,000 cubic meters, but only 525,600 cubic meters are supplied, leaving a gap of 284,400 cubic meters, with informal settlements being most affected.
