Radio host Celina Njoki, popularly known as Browngal, has been discharged from Kijabe Mission Hospital after 21 days of treatment following a complicated birth. However, she is yet to leave the hospital due to a pending hospital bill of KSh 800,000.
According to Njoki, her health insurance claimed they would only cover her maternity charges, ignoring a doctor's letter indicating that she was undergoing a different medical condition. This has left her with a significant share of the bill.
Njoki's insurance cover and National Health Insurance Fund are only paying KSh 54,000 per day, leaving her with the remaining KSh 746,000 to clear. The hospital has agreed to accept a surety to release her once the bill is reduced to KSh 100,000.
Just days after welcoming her baby boy, Njoki was admitted to the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and underwent surgery on June 3. She was later transfused after well-wishers and friends gathered at the hospital to donate blood, which saw them getting 7 pints of it.
Njoki has been battling a rare medical condition identified as Acquired Haemophilia (AH) for the past few years. She is now appealing to well-wishers to help her raise the funds to clear the hospital bill and go home to nurse her newborn baby.
